Angelic Voices

Angelic Voices

An angel spoke to me today
The news she brought I can’t yet say
But rest assured the future’s good
For every soul there is a way

If to this weary writer came
A heavenly message with powerful flame
Then good news can be heard by all
For in the end we’re all the same

Now sometimes there’s disbelief around
I’m not so far above the ground
To let those things unnoticed pass
For doubting also makes a sound

There isn’t a time mankind has seen
Where nothing of mystery’s left to glean
There’s always chance for something new
Surprising light on where we’ve been

Because the future’s coming fast
You should hold on to what will last
For much will go, quicker than sand
Leaving memories of the past

So nothing more for now, dear friend
Except a gentle word to lend
Stay open for the positive news
For angels, time will have no end

The Devil You Know

The Devil You Know

Better the devil you know, they say
Why hope for more?  We’re only clay
But what if something different waits
Far more important than today

I don’t imply you must change all
For sometimes writing’s on the wall
Simply keep an open mind
And brighter things may also fall

Your garden is not the only truth
A world around you gives some proof
And then beyond, far more indeed
So what is out there, super-sleuth?

An honest answer’s always best
The truth is we don’t know the rest
Experience comes to many in time
And each feels slightly cursed and blessed

A mixture of the strangest things
And all succumb, both saints and kings
To mystery which lives through all times
Desire to be lord of the rings

So Frodo, mark these words down well
The future’s not mine or yours to tell
Seek on of course, but know for sure
The devil’s not better, he’ll bring you hell!

When Eagles Dare

When Eagles Dare

The eagle flies high above us all
And even sparrows, ’till death, won’t fall
So why do us humans blunder on
Today we run, tomorrow we crawl

We have potential, this much I know
And perhaps eventually this will grow
Yet mostly watching from the lines
We’re wondering why life doesn’t flow

So try and let the worries go
And find out what you have to show
The world is waiting for your gift
Remove the barriers, let it glow

Yes, face the barrage of human doubt
With all the chaff we can do without
Then gently sort it to one side
And with your talent quietly shout

Is caution wrong in modern times?
Is this among your list of crimes?
You’ll find that boldness can be best
But not too much, for life’s a test

The test is always on, each day
So try to rise beyond the fray
You know that eagles dare to fly
Why not the likes of you and I?

Doors of Choice

Doors of Choice

Every day an open door
Which to choose, why aren’t you sure?
Because the world grows wilder still
And where’s the room which has no flaw?

The corridor twists and turns all day
The paintings all have something to say
First guiding, then perhaps mocking you
As if they want your steps to stray

Take caution on the voice you hear
For only one will guide you clear
Tune in and listen to only this
For close beyond, confusion and fear

This warning today is not to preach
It’s simply a note which wants to teach
There isn’t a way to do it all
Some things will be beyond your reach

So focus on things which matter now
The rest will come, I can’t say how
The universe gives and takes away
Carefully sow then guide your plough

If still you’re in the corridor, lost
And walking paths already crossed
Take action!  Just remember this:
The doors of choice each have their cost

The Dusty Book

The Dusty Book

Quietly placed upon a shelf
Where none have gone for many a year
A book sits quietly, full of wealth
Yet  wasted to a world of fear

For answers can be found for those
Who really want to know
In places where we once have been
But then forgot to go

It’s easy to miss a glint of truth
When faced with so much noise
Slow down, be still, and listen hard
For busyness destroys

Never a word was written down
For nobody to read
Keep searching, never give up the quest
For it’s not based on greed

There never will be a day which passes
When no thing will change
Stay wide awake and watch it all
Though often things are strange

Sometimes there’s nothing you can do
But learn a little more
Each day a chance to glean a gem
Then life is never a chore

It’s time for reading, studying perhaps
You’ll be surprised to find
That dusty book so long forgotten
Has all the world outshined

Mercy

Mercy

A woman in tears can melt your heart
How could you look away?
Or perhaps you’re cynical, doubting pain
A part in someone’s play

It’s hard to take when someone’s need
Is greater than your own
You’ve things to do, Life doesn’t stop
The grass once more has grown

But life can change more than you know
And every day it will
If closing down might suit you best
You’re welcome, take that pill

So many things are daily missed
By those who choose that path
So did you make the finest choice?
Or are you courting wrath?

Would a swan ignore her young?
Could a song remain unsung?
We must respond to need each day
And gently show there is a way

So in this world of pressure and haste
Let’s take a moment amidst the waste
And make a change, with merciful mind
There’s power in mercy, strength in kind

The Circle of Life

The Circle of Life

Your life can feel disconnected
Whatever your device
A thousand phones and tablets
Can never quite suffice

The modern age of speed and want
Will never want to change
But try slowing down amidst the strife
Embrace the lost and strange

For through the years one thing remains
And that is simply us
We’re striving on not knowing quite where
So where’s the need for fuss?

We don’t need much to stay alive
Yet somehow think we do
From every side we’re told a lie
Think carefully, who are you?

The world’s a stage and every act
Will cause a little shift
So play your part now carefully
And give us all a lift!

Positive change is always good
So let your mind shine bright
The circle of life is closing now
There’s no more need to fight.
