The Fruit Tree

The Fruit Tree

Glistening for the human eye
The fruit on this tree cannot die
It lures and pulls at every heart
And no-one knows the reason why

The first who eats will quickly choke
So cruel it seems, is this a joke?
But there’s no way around this truth
The fruit won’t change, nor pain revoke

If tempted by its golden sheen
Think twice about the trick you’ve seen
By now you should have learned the fact
That danger sometimes smiles, serene

So days and days will pass in sin
And still the lesson has not sunk in
This fruit which all enjoy so well
Will keep on shining though none can win

So here’s the tip which should be told
If help is what we give this fold
When finding this tree of sparkling fruit
Have some respect, don’t be too bold
For if you have the strength to pass
And move toward a different class
Then pure unending joy is yours
And harmless fruit lies on the grass

Another Man’s Pain

Another Man’s Pain by Simon J. Halliday

Struggling through a field of pain

Is brave for any soul

When it’s sunny you don’t want rain

Peace and quiet, your goal

And if you look around and see

Another’s pain is real

How can you hide within your peace

And not attempt to heal?

It’s never too late to change your mind

Whilst still alive on earth

The future’s calling all souls in

To unknown joy and worth

So give give give, but never give up

And then you’ll see it plain

Another man’s struggle will help you both

Your sun shines through his pain

The Wishing Well

The Wishing Well by Simon J. Halliday

If, in your world, numbers rule

You’ll never want to look the fool

You might just be afraid to lose

Because, you know, the world is cruel

Whether it’s striving for top grade

Or making money in light or shade

You’ll never quite reach the highest bough

Because the games are daily played

So peering deeper into prose

And searching meaning, finding flows

You might begin to sense much more

Beyond the columns and the rows

The rose and hedge, the bird and bee

The wild geese fly, the fish swim free

And there you sit with screen and pen

Now choosing either wine or tea

Expand your vision beyond these walls

Reach out before your life now falls

The images, sounds of cellular pain

Are screaming, echoing round your halls

And where’s the well of wishes true?

Why is it hiding from your view?

The things which matter most of all

Seem distant, always mocking you

Yet now’s the time to rise and say

I’m not allowing those things to stray

My field of vision is growing strong

My love, my dreams can’t slip away

I’m holding on, I’m getting mad

The well of wishes such beauty had

And never can my mind forget

There’s never a reason for staying sad

So, simple though these words may be

Please take some of the mystery

You’ll make your life by what you do

So make your wish, it will come true.

The Time Capsule

The Time Capsule by Simon J. Halliday

Deep beneath the frozen earth

Lies something hidden of unknown worth

A treasure for adventurous souls

To find at will, with joy and mirth

Not to give the game away

I’ll keep it quiet until the day

That someone questions just enough

To bring the answer into play

And then the quest has just begun

For no-one knows beneath the sun

Just where this treasure is quietly lain

Its prime objective – to bring us fun

So searching every land and sea

The people try to set it free

But silently it never stirs

Elusive still, this mystery

I haven’t told you anything real

Or truths you might wish I’d reveal

Yet minds are subtle you may yet find

A thing of worth will have a seal

It’s only when the student’s time

Has reached the point of facing crime

And fearless, marches through it all

With knowledge of life beyond sublime

The answers lie in patient wait

Whilst students cry with fear and hate

So rise from life and search through time

The biggest fish takes all the bait

And does he live or does he die?

Does he sing or does he cry?

The capsule still lies hidden in time

So search, my friend, for time can’t lie

The Dawn Riders

The Dawn Riders by Simon J. Halliday

Did you wake to sounds of birds

Or was it grinding, steel machines?

The world provides a million ways

To take our hopes and steal our dreams

Yet through the complex thoughts which spin

The light is there for all to find

A single life is nothing much

Unless it’s connected to mankind

The point is not to say hello

Or copy and paste a few old words

The need is far much greater now

To look beyond, to learn and grow

For every whim and passing fad

Will be replaced and leave you cold

Today a phone or perhaps a horse

Tomorrow will seem a little old

Although the passing time is real

You’re not a prisoner to this game

The money goes and so do friends

But new things come, so have no blame

No good comes from looking back

Without the hope of another dawn

In years of searching time’s rich web

I finally see the future born

It’s just beginning for us all

And this, more true for older minds

For death is just a new beginning

When no-one cares, the searcher finds

If all this seems a little odd

And lost you somewhere in the midst

I can’t make an apology

There’s too much waiting on my list

You see the time is pressing on

I’m just like you, I have to go

And writing isn’t everything

It just helps keep me in the flow

So think on words and think on thoughts

Remembering that they’re not your own

The Riders of the dawn were here

Long before our lives had grown

A Friendly Word

A Friendly Word by Simon J. Halliday

The world can be confusing

No-one could disagree

Whilst wars rage on and crime still pays

What’s left for you and me?

But never will a negative thought

Be helpful for our cause

The only way is up, they say

So don’t forget what’s yours

Hold on to every memory

And everything you know

For times will come when all these things

Will help your life to flow

I’m speaking to the lost and lonely

People who don’t know

The future’s bright for those who love

Yet have nowhere to go

The dawn of hope is ever-near

The power of life runs deep

You only need a friendly word

To wake you from your sleep

Tomorrow’s World

Tomorrow’s World by Simon J Halliday

When the day has passed once more

Don’t sit and stare down at the floor

You have no time to feel alone

For people wonder where you’ve flown

Your friends are wondering if you’re fine

Or if you crossed a dangerous line

For when no contact has been made

You risk their minds to grow afraid

I don’t know who you have to call

But modern times allow it all

So don’t hold back when thinking deep

The power you have you  just can’t keep

Reach out and make the effort now

You might not realise why or how

But something soon will make you act

And change the future into “Wow!”

I’m not afraid to speak my mind

I’m not afraid to write the truth

So if you find me soon my friend

Then don’t come asking me for proof

I tell you that the future’s great

It’s yours to take or leave, old mate

I don’t have anything left to hide

Tomorrow’s world is open wide…
