Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Many hopes still unfulfilled
Despite how strongly they were willed
But when reflecting on what’s been
Recall the details of each scene

Like Sherlock, you may find what’s real
The things which matter in each deal
For passing quickly are our lives
And onward our intention drives

So what is possible from this place?
Choose wisely, all are in the race
And wishes may not be enough
Prepare them well, life can be tough

Dream on, then, and with equal measure
To sacrifice and things of pleasure
The resolutions must be kept
Or once again those tears are wept

So positive thinking, will of steel
Move with thought, and don’t just feel
Another chance to break through fear
To all, my friends, a Happy New Year!

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas!

‘Though the poems may be few
I have a special wish for you
For since you take the time to read
You now deserve this special seed

A seed of hope, within these words
That soars beyond the beasts and birds
To give more meaning from now on
Since Christmas lights have brightly shone

Within the haze of travel and change
And whilst this world will rearrange
You may step back and now reflect
On what you next wish to select

For choices make the difference NOW
Don’t doubt the truth or question how
The future starts right here in time
And from now on will ever climb

If this too much, then search some more
For every boat must come to shore
And cargo’s out there, no mistake
Don’t pass it by, for goodness’ sake

Some strange ideas for these great days
Life’s moving on in curious ways
Whoever, wherever, lad or lass
I wish you all a Happy Christmas!

Christmas Cheer

Christmas Cheer

Everywhere you go right now
You’ll hear the joy and wonder how
Amidst the world of endless woe
We somehow find the joy we know

More smiles and hugs than usual days
A sense of giving and generous ways
The chance for all to show more care
And endless light for those who dare

The world is shifting every hour
Somewhere out there exists great power
And in here too, in every heart
Each day another chance to start

So in your travels, if Scrooge is seen
See through his ways, ‘though they are mean
A smile and generous heart go far
Much further than old Scrooge’s car

And some have people to excess
Whilst others are in the wilderness
Through all this time, stand up to fear
And let joy in, with Christmas cheer

Man’s Best Friend

Man’s Best Friend

‘Man’s best friend’ is what they say
And should you take the time to play
Just half an hour here and there
You’ll come to know and truly care

For when in trouble, here they come
No doubt or questions as with some
The lessons we can learn are great
At times more than a human mate

A constant source of peace and joy
Which no man ever could destroy
And yet, of course, the day arrives
When nature moves and changes lives

And when those with the shorter time
Who never wanted pound or dime
Move on from here, they just leave tales
Of loving warmth that never fails

So treat with care these hairy friends
We know that no life truly ends
And in our thoughts we’re grateful here
For in our hearts they’re always dear

In memory of Linda’s dog, December 2013

What May Come?

What May Come?

Faith we’ll need, for what may come?
No man on earth can know the sum
Of all that comes and goes each hour
And what’s behind the veil of power

For what more can we ask of all
Than ‘do your best’ to heed your call
Who has the mind of perfect love?
For this we need to look above

Yet even here we have the chance
To make some plans and take a stance
And in our lives we can find ways
To overcome the darkest days

So let’s not fret or be unwise
For much is here for searching eyes
But simple joy’s enough for some
Let’s have great faith in what may come

Social Times

Social Times

This time of year brings social times
Amidst great hopes and hidden crimes
With smiles of joy, and some with doubt
Uncertain what it’s all about

A party here, a concert there
Some work to do, some faith to share
A riot of colours, lights and noise
Excitement from the girls and boys

And in the maelstrom we’re now in
A chance for all to smash their sin
For who knows how next year will change
When evil minds can rearrange

And see some light within the storm
For every thought is given form
We’re on the brink at times, you know
We need to get back in the flow

So think more deeply at this time
Which should now bring us gifts divine
Each hope and fear to heaven climbs
So make the most of social times

The Way We Were

The Way We Were

Take time to think on how things are
And whether things have come so far
Some change we welcome, some deter
We’re different than the way we were

Which forces act to change our lives?
So busy in our restless hives
Outside the door things move each day
We might not know, we might not play

The current stream may not look good
Is life progressing as it should?
Who has the answer?  Where’s the clue?
The answer must begin with you

Then look inside and plot your course
For things to change we need a force
Our actions now will bring next year
So act in love, destroying fear

The future’s where we all are bound
Yet memories are all around
The past had value, thoughts can stir
Reflecting on the way we were
