Priceless

Priceless

Priceless are some kindly words
Or a flock of strange rare birds
Travelling out to foreign places
Seeing hope in struggling faces

Moving far beyond the norm
Pushing boundaries through the storm
Despite the pressures and the doubts
You carry on amidst their shouts

For endless ways the world will try
To take away the route you’ll fly
When clearly you have plotted well
You’re on the launchpad – what the hell

Take flight and do the things you must
The things we buy will come to dust
And so will we, eventually
So seek what’s priceless, then you’ll see

Believe Beyond

Believe Beyond

Believe beyond the here and now
For more is there than we’ll allow
Into our restless, changing lives
Whilst peace and joy still reigns and thrives

We have to let some goodness in
Our little hopes might never win
So letting go from time to time
Could help our cause to strangely climb

Because we try too hard, you know
The world around will ebb and flow
And what we do may bring surprise
Not all we’d planned, but let’s be wise

The life beyond the every-day
Is not for all, I have to say
But have respect for mystery, friend
Some believe beyond and greatness send

Boxes

Boxes

Boxes everywhere I go
And what’s inside them?  Who could know?
Surprises are in store for all
Some may be great, and some quite small

All this a chance to show we care
With happy times to give and share
And yet remember, love won’t come
At any price, it has no sum

For things of this world come and go
And all will finally have to know
That happiness is beyond the place
Where pain or joy’s seen on a face

The passing years are teaching well
That some may find a way to sell
Their dreams in great, fantastic form
So others may around them swarm

But think with care this Christmastime
With every penny, yen or dime
The money we use is just for show
So easily dropped in fallen snow

And by the lights and shining trees
We might take quietly to our knees
Remembering why the wise kings came
For all these boxes aren’t the same

Deceivers

Deceivers

Deceivers can live anywhere
In all their dealings are unfair
And how to spot such goings on?
You might not know until they’re gone

But lessons learned from such as these
Are countless as their many fees
A price they have for every act
We know with whom they’ve made their pact

Yet tragic will it be, you know
If these unruly souls will sow
The doubt which stops us moving far
And fades from view the brightest star

Keep fixed then on the final goal
Not all will help your struggling soul
But some, for sure, will move things fast
Once all deceivers’ lies have passed

Where The Heart Is

Where The Heart Is

Where the heart is, who can know?
For life will always ebb and flow
Yet you may find the place you seek
The earth inherited by the meek

Although too shy won’t bring success
You’ll need direction, must progress
Think clearly of the end right now
And life will bring you there somehow

This may sound weak to jaded ear
For lives are lived in doubt and fear
Yet simple ways are always best
With child-like trust you can find rest

Dismiss or keep each word and thought
For choices are what freedom bought
Yet make the right ones, why not now?
And find your heart out there, somehow

Every Day Will End

Every Day Will End

Despite how we like to pretend
The fact is every day will end
It’s true if we love to complain
Or live in joy through sun and rain

The answer to each riddle is there
Yet won’t be seen by those who stare
For life moves on and things will shift
Within space-time a sudden rift

Within a blink we could be gone
Who really knows what’s going on?
Yes, endless worry is possible here
The choice is ours, for faith or fear

So then, students of this time
What might glean you from this rhyme?
The day is short, so don’t pretend
Be useful!  Every day will end

Help From Beyond

Help From Beyond

Help from beyond is always there
If here and now none seem to care
Look further in and further out
Beyond the confines of our doubt

For limited are our hopes and dreams
The walls we make can channel streams
Of thought and action that we know
But things are lost, so take it slow

We need the time to let things come
Our lives are not a simple sum
For all the time, beyond our range
There lives and breeds what may seem strange

A billion other races there
Extended family also care
With iPad version seventy-three
They’d like to chat with you and me

So have perspective, make new friends
Life’s journey never truly ends
We’ve just begun, whatever our place
Help from beyond may save our race

Amidst The Throng

Amidst the Throng

So many rushing here and there
Amidst the throng, there’s time to care
Don’t push or grab, for Santa knows
And Satan too, they’ll both tie bows

A present of life or present of doom
In this world there is always room
Take care, and want the things of good
If asked, say ‘peace and joy’, I would

A time of happiness, spreading ’round
So none can hide from joyful sound
And even in the killer’s lair
Some hope of change can enter there

So don’t dismiss the time of cheer
Despite the madness and some fear
For all now need a happy song
You’ll find it all amidst the throng

Clear Thought

Clear Thought

The time has come for clear thought
The things we need, the things we bought
Excess has ways of catching all
But listen and hear a better call

For Christmas is a time to care
To think of loved ones, time to share
And those who need more help are there
Let’s make a choice, grow more aware

Another year, a chance to learn
More need than ever as promises burn
Try harder one and all, I plea
For powerful forces come, I see

And whether friends from distant stars
Or scruffy beggars who dream of cars
Respond with love and care, my friend
For broken lives and hearts can mend

A perfect time now to reflect
On how your actions cause effect
For whether you’re broke or living high
Clear thought, you’ll find, you can not buy

Age

Age

Age will come to all who live
We should be asking what we’ll give
For as we give then we receive
As time goes on we learn to believe

The wisdom that is hidden from youth
Is hard to find because it’s truth
That everything’s important here
Each thought and word, each hope and fear

And seeing through the tricks that play
There’s not much new from day to day
Don’t be surprised at what is known
For most was done before we’d grown

Each generation needs to learn
They’re not the first to have their turn
And eager, lively souls which come
Will need some help, or could be glum

For in the world which thinks it knows
Live secrets, lies and countless woes
So when we see some youthful rage
Let’s hope some kindness comes with age
