Perhaps Today

Perhaps Today

Perhaps today your chance will come
The game has changed, a lot for some
Each day is new and all must search
Who knows where fate’s great wheel may lurch?

Don’t think you won’t amount to much
Keep open channels, stay in touch
The mind is deep and no-one’s sure
Just what tomorrow has in store

Look forwards into where we’re bound
A brand new song, a relic found
Surprises come to those who look
Don’t disregard that dusty book

For hidden where you may not guess
Are answers that will guide and bless
In seeking more you’ll find the way
Then joy comes quickly – perhaps today

Nelson

Nelson

Who’d have thought that just one man
With peace and courage could make a plan
That changed the world beyond all hope
And with great courage found ways to cope

For many the trials of such a soul
Who stays so focused on the goal
Unwavering in the gifts he’ll bring
And millions to his words will cling

Such great example to us all
To break right through a stupid wall
That holds mankind apart – for what?
Some greed and power before they’re shot

So shining with his head held high
Despite the time had come to die
Throughout all time this legacy thrives
Thank you Nelson, you’ve changed our lives

R.I.P. Nelson Mandela.  5th December 2013

Adventure

Adventure

Life’s adventure, make it good
Don’t be stuck by ‘could, should would’
For every passing day has gone
And we’re still here, life will go on

Dream harder, seek the things you love
And yet be peaceful as the dove
By forcing things you’ll never win
Go softly and let life begin

Then watch the dream unfold each hour
Don’t underestimate your power
For we all have our tales to tell
Be truthful and all will be well

But if the enemy strikes you down
There’s still no reason for a frown
You tried your best and beat the fear
And more adventurers now are here

Don’t Stop Now

Don’t Stop Now

Don’t stop now, you’re nearly there
So much to give, so much to share
And yes you’re tired, as all can be
But light is coming and then you’ll see

The steep incline of this last mile
Won’t bring relief or cause a smile
But once it’s done then all is new
‘No pain no gain’ is sometimes true

So weary traveller, don’t despair
When all is blurred and dark out there
The day will come when things are clear
And happy times are finally here

Words and numbers melt away
When powerful forces come to play
Life will be good, don’t question how
For many reasons – don’t stop now!

Beauty

Beauty

Beauty can be found by all
Each eye and mind will see its call
And yes some danger may be there
What can I say, except beware

For lured in is many a fool
Throughout each life, it starts at school
And some can’t seem to shake it off
Just like a wretched tickly cough

But here’s a thing you have to know
Through beauty you might learn and grow
If you can see in every place
Some hidden magic, timeless grace

The things which cause a soul to soar
Which call it on, still wanting more
Should have some beauty in the blend
For one day soon, all this will end

The Shopkeeper

The Shopkeeper

Gravely pass the souls each day
And wonder what they’ll need to pay
But money won’t buy what we’ll need
The system’s fuelled by debt and greed

I am the keeper of the shop
Don’t pass on by, you need to stop
You have to ease my heavy load
You’ve no idea of what is owed

Another day, another pound
The tills will ring their happy sound
And will this haze of numbers end?
I hope not – they’re my only friend

So adding up the profit and loss
I’m wondering who would be the boss
A labour of love is great for some
But this shopkeeper ain’t so dumb

It’s time to take a new approach
Seek deeper, and the dark reproach
Positive thoughts now – never mourn
Another day, it soon will dawn

Dog Eat Dog

Dog Eat Dog

Amidst the times of dog eat dog
You’ll find that there’s a missing cog
This great machine of industry
Does not intend to make us free

For every hour we stare at screens
We may forget just what it means
And questions of the reasons why
Are lost in dreams of how we’ll fly

So back to basics, see what’s real
And start to fly with how you feel
For all can find the things they love
For every hand, a fitting glove

Then don’t give up, accept what’s there
And work with things for which you care
For cheery words and helpful deeds
Are what this dog eat dog world needs

Future Tense

Future Tense

In the future, don’t be tense
Or sitting on a rotten fence
Make choices and live with intent
Or you’ll be wondering where it went

For living each day to the full
And making light where it was dull
You’ll find the worries fade away
And more than ever you’ll love each day

But if some hardship may befall
Remember we all have the call
To rise above with strength and hope
That through all things our minds will cope

Yes still there’s more, the future waits
No time for those regrets and hates
Relax and learn, it makes more sense
And make a better future tense

Tempting Times

Tempting Times

Tempting times they will devise
To lure you in, there’s no surprise
And who are ‘they’?  It could be me
Or maybe you.  For who is free?

Most of the time the games play on
Whilst seeking – where have good times gone?
We’re all the same, so let’s be clear
No point in hiding ‘midst the fear

Seek answers and a straight reply
In complications truth can die
Beware of small print in the eyes
Each moment brings a new disguise

So now we know the way things work
Let’s not be shy or go berserk
For knowledge has freed us, time for joy
Don’t let those tempting times destroy

Relax

Relax

Your peaceful life this world attacks
You must make time to just relax
No point in giving stress its way
So never forget to laugh, to play

So serious is this world we’re in
No doubt at times we’ll never win
So all the more we’ll need to say
‘It’s time to take a holiday’

No end to worry when it begins
The state of mankind and its sins
Can multiply as deadly plague
And daily news will just be vague

So when you see the horrors that live
Remember also – take and give
So much to see, be grateful for
Relax and you’ll enjoy it more
